Markets end in red and Infosys is the culprit

Indian shares fell on Friday led by Infosys that plunged after the resignation of Chief Executive Vishal Sikka heightened uncertainty about the IT services provider's future. The S&P BSE Sensex and the CNX Nifty fell by 0.85% and 0.67% respectively.

Indian indices

Indian markets ended lower on Friday, tracking bearish cues from Asian markets, as terrorist attack in Spain and concerns over the Trump administration’s ability to push through its economic agenda rattled investors sentiment.

Among sectoral indices, IT and Teck stocks emerged as top laggards. Infosys tumbled nearly 10% after the company’s chief executive (CEO) and managing director (MD) Vishal Sikka resigned, citing a continuous stream of distractions and personal attacks.

During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 31729.88 and intraday low of 31349.13, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9865.95 and intraday low of 9783.65.

  • PowerGrid Corporation of India rose 1.85%, after the company said that it has entered into loan agreement on 17 August 2017 with Asian Development Bank for an amount of $500 million.
  • HPCL rose 1.90%, after the report suggested that it has inked joint venture agreement with Government of Rajasthan for the upcoming refinery in Barmer at a cost of Rs43129 crore.

US stock index futures poised for a lower opening on the Wall Street on Friday.
