IPOs

One of the most anticipated IPOs of the Indian equity markets is almost here. Jio Platforms Limited is all set to make its debut with an Initial Public Offering of over 30,000 crores.

The company, that was first established in 2016 as a mass-scale broadband service provider, has today ventured beyond mobile connectivity and broadband services into entertainment production and distribution. It is now set to enter into cloud computing and AI verticals as well.

Let’s dive deeper into what this IPO holds for investors.

About JIO Platforms Limited

Jio Platforms’ digital connectivity forms one of the fundamental pillars of India’s growing digital economy, which is expected to reach $1.4 trillion (?125.8 trillion) by Fiscal 2031, as per the Analysys Mason Report. Its Subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (β€œRJIL”), served 533.3 million customers in India, as of June 30, 2026.

A combination of mobile, fixed broadband and digital services across a unified platform, together with data and customer personalisation, positions them as a comprehensive digital gateway for accessing the internet, digital services and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (β€œAI”).

Jio’s business model is built on a proprietary technology stack that they have designed, developed and deployed in-house. It has vertically integrated technology capabilities across network, device engineering, software and operating systems, and digital applications. This full-stack ownership helps the Company to significantly reduce dependency on third-party vendors, provides structural cost advantages, and enables faster innovation cycles.

As of June 30, 2026, the Company had 12,477 employees in the digital products and technology development team, representing approximately 45% of their total full-time employees. As of June 30, 2026, the Company and its Subsidiaries have applied for 7,220 patents, across 4G, 5G, 6G cloud-native core network architectures, AI-driven network automation, and other digital technologies within India and outside India.

Jio Platforms Limited was ranked among the top 20 global companies in the Patent Cooperation Treaty rankings in 2025, according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation. By leveraging this proprietary technology stack, they are transitioning into an AI-native digital services company endeavouring to deliver connected intelligence and agentic AI services at scale to consumers and businesses.

Why is Jio launching an IPO

To investors, numbed by a plethora of issues that led next to nowhere, the Jio IPO might seem like something of a shot in the arm. It is primarily a fresh issue of around 27 crore equity shares, according to the DRHP filed with SEBI.

To break this down further, a large chunk of the proceeds, about ?27,500 crore, will help in cutting down debts for Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL). This allocation of funds will keep borrowing costs in check, streamline financial flexibility, and improve the balance sheets significantly.

The remaining proceeds might be harnessed in the more conventional applications such as new initiatives, capital expenditure, and investments in technology and infrastructure.

Valuations and Financials

For the last financial year, Jio reported:

- Revenue of Rs.1.47 lakh crores
- EBITDA of Rs.76,255 crores
- Profit After Tax of Rs.30,049 crores
- EBITDA Margin of 51.9%
- ARPU of Rs.214 per month

Moreover, in the last year, it acquired another 36.2 million customers.

So, it is safe to say that Jio is making its IPO in a position of profitability with a healthy cash flow. This suggests a confidence that makes it doubly attractive.

What’s the Growth Story Ahead?

The upcoming phase of Jio’s growth, however, isn’t just about adding more customers. The focus now will shift towards providing greater value for the price.

Some of the key growth drivers are:

- A wider adoption of 5G services
- Expansion of JioFiber and JioAirFiber
- Development of cloud and enterprise solutions
- Increase in use of AI-powered solutions
- Increase in demand for digital infrastructure in business

This is a massive opportunity, but it all depends on how this vision is implemented. And that is precisely what investors are keeping an eye on.
