Benchmark indices opened higher on Wednesday morning. Investor sentiment remained cautious amid concerns that elevated energy prices could keep inflation high and prompt the US Federal Reserve to maintain a tighter monetary policy stance.

At 9:20 AM on September 16, the Sensex was up 0.52% at 74,380, while the Nifty gained 120 points to 23,250.

The rupee opened 7 paise higher at 95.89 against the USD compared with its previous close of 95.96, as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's rate decision later in the day despite continued pressure from elevated crude oil prices.

Global Update
Asian equities edged higher on Wednesday after four straight sessions of losses, as the recent rise in global bond yields and crude oil prices paused ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision. MSCI's broad Asia-Pacific index outside Japan rose 0.2%, while South Korean equities gained 0.8%. S&P 500 futures were up 0.1%.

US stocks extended their losses on Tuesday as rising Treasury yields, concerns over government debt and higher crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 328 points (0.63%) to 52,093.11, the S&P 500 declined 0.45% to 7,585.73, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.78% to 25,981.57.
