Markets open in positive territory

Indian benchmark indices opened with moderate gains on Wednesday. Strong Asian markets and Brent crude prices slipping below $100 a barrel provided a supportive backdrop, although foreign institutional selling could keep domestic sentiment cautious.

At 9:20 AM on September 23, the Sensex was up 265 points at 74,786, while the Nifty gained 0.35% to 23,410.

Asian equities advanced on Wednesday as continued optimism around AI supported technology stocks. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan gained 0.7%, extending its winning streak to six sessions. South Korean equities climbed 1.2%, while Taiwan rose 0.9% and traded near record highs. Japanese cash markets remained closed for a holiday, although Nikkei futures traded sharply above the index's Friday closing level.

US equities ended mixed on Tuesday, but technology stocks continued to outperform as enthusiasm around AI lifted Micron Technology and other related names. Continued strength in US technology shares spilled over into Asian markets, helping offset concerns around global interest rates and geopolitical risks. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.45% to 27,244.28, marking its second consecutive record close. The S&P 500 finished nearly unchanged at 7,764.64, remaining just below record territory, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.36% to 51,863.69.
