Post Market Update- Sensex down 443 points, Nifty ends below 24,250

Indian indices-

Indian equities closed in the red on July 20, 2026, with bank and financial shares leading the decline as traders closely monitored geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran. Most sectoral indices were trading in the red, indicating a broadly weak market sentiment. At close, the Sensex was down 442.93 points or 0.57% at 77,708.52, and the Nifty was down 95.80 points or 0.39% at 24,238.50.

Rupee closed at 96.45/$ Vs. Friday's close of 96.28/$.

Buzzing stocks on BSE-

1. ICICI Bank Ltd rose by 1.32% to Rs. 1,461, after Q1 net profit rose by 15.9% to Rs. 14,804.5 crore for the Quarter ended June 30, 2026.

2. VA Tech Wabag surged 6.38% to Rs. 2,117.45, after it has secured a mega domestic order from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

3. Punjab National Bank (PNB) jumped 5.62% to Rs. 111.75, after the bank’s standalone net profit surged 213.63% to Rs. 5,253.29 crore in Q1 FY27 compared with Rs. 1,675 crores posted in Q1 FY26.

Global Signals-

Asian markets closed mixed as investors weighed rising US-Iran tensions, oil prices, and inflation concerns.

European markets were also mixed as investors monitored Middle East tensions, higher oil prices, and upcoming ECB policy decisions.
