Post Market Update- Sensex slips 324 points, Nifty below 25,600

Indian indices-

The benchmark indices ended lower on January 19, 2026, led by disappointing earnings from domestic giants and geopolitical tensions triggered a wave of selling. Majority of the sectoral indices ended in red. The BSE midcap index shed 0.43% and smallcap index declined 1.28%. The Sensex dropped 324.17 points, or 0.39%, to close near 83,246.18. The Nifty declined 108.85 points, or 0.42%, to end at 25,585.50.

Rupee ended at 90.91/$ against January 16, 2026, close of 90.87/$.

Buzzing stocks on BSE-

1. Inter Globe Aviation gained 4.30% to Rs. 4,942.50, after DGCA imposes Rs. 22.2 crores penalty & bank guarantee of Rs. 50 crores for December flight disruptions.

2. Can Fin Homes rose 1.50% to Rs. 933.40, after the company reported 25% rise in net profit to Rs. 265 crore in Q3 FY26 from Rs. 212 crores recorded in Q3 FY25.

Global Signals-

Asia-Pacific markets mostly slipped, as investors assessed threats from the Trump administration toward Greenland over the weekend, as well as key economic data from China out Monday.

European markets fell after Trump’s Greenland tariffs threat.
