Indian indices-

Indian equity indices ended on a strong note on July 17, supported by strong buying interest in private banking, IT, and automobile stocks. Positive investor sentiment, coupled with broad-based gains across sectors, lifted the benchmark indices higher. At close, the Sensex was up 964.58 points or 1.25% at 78,151.45, and the Nifty was up 261.55 points or 1.09% at 24,334.30.

The rupee closed at 96.28 per US dollar, compared with Thursday's closing level of 96.35 per dollar.

Buzzing stocks on BSE-

1. Wipro slipped 1.01% to Rs. 176, after the company reported a 4.69% decline in consolidated net profit to Rs. 3,356.3 crore for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (Q1 FY27), compared with Rs 3,521.6 crore posted in Q4 FY26.

2. Alok Industries fell 1.60% to Rs. 12.32, after the company reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 138.25 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1 FY27), compared with a net loss of Rs. 171.56 crore posted in Q1 FY26.

Asian stock markets closed mixed, as investors assessed economic data, corporate earnings, and global market trends.

European markets traded lower, pressured by weakness in technology stocks and cautious investor sentiment.
