Market Report- Sensex down 150 points, Nifty below 26,100

The Indian stock markets have indeed opened the session on a cautious and negative note on January 8, 2026. This marks the fourth consecutive session of declines for the benchmark indices, Nifty 50 and Sensex. The market sentiment is currently being weighed down by a combination of global trade fears and technical selling. At 9.22 am, Sensex slipped by 0.16% or 153 points to 84,820. The Nifty dipped 0.18% or 44 points to 26,096.

Today is the weekly expiry of the Sensex contracts. The market will react to the first advance GDP estimates for FY26 which were released last evening after market close.
