Indian indices-

The benchmark indices faced a challenging session on January 8, 2026, with both the indices extending their losing streak to a fourth consecutive day. The sell-off was marked by significant volatility, largely fueled by geopolitical tensions and fresh concerns over global trade policies. The indices witnessed their worst single-day performance in a month, with heavy selling pressure across sectors. At close, the Sensex was down 780.18 points or 0.92% at 84,180.96, and the Nifty was down 263.90 points or 1.01% at 25,876.85.

Rupee ended at 90.02/$ against January 07 close of 89.88/$.

Buzzing stocks on BSE-

1. Panacea Biotech jumped 12.50% to Rs. 431.65, after major development for Dengue vaccine enrolment.

2. Balaji Amines surged 13.74% to Rs. 1,219.90, as company became eligible for Rs. 250 cr + govt incentives.

3. Gokaldas Exports declined 8.49% to Rs. 626, on US tariffs concerns.

4. Meesho dropped 4.71% to Rs.165.05, after the company announced that its General Manager Megha Agarwal has resigned.

Global Signals-

Asia-Pacific markets mostly fell after Wall Street closed lower amid rising geopolitical tensions and comments from US President Donald Trump.

European stocks were also in negative territory, though defence stocks rallied over Donald Trump’s call for US military spending to rise.
